Burgin, seconded by Mr J. Miles Verrall, a voto of thanka was unanimously passed. ELLESMERE. 3lr George Rennio spoke at Tai Tapu on Wednesday to a very fair attendance. Mr R. Maoarthy, chairman of the School Committee, presided, and a vote of thanks was passed on tho motion ot Mr Leathern, seconded by Mr Forbes. Mr H. Shaw addressed a crowded meeting at Purau on Monday evening, receiving a hearty vote of thanks. A similar compliment to the chairman (Mr Hunter) concluded the meeting. SELWYN. Mr 0. A. C. Hardy met with an enthusiastio reception nt Woodsido. Mr A Frampton waa chairman, and there was a good attendance. The candidate enlarged upon the importance of completing the Midland railway. He was glad to find that most of his audience were freeholders. He was a freeholder himsolf, and tho very word was music to his oar and gladsome to hia heart, and ho hoped all who heard him that night could appreciate the value of the freehold as much as ho did. Ho dealt very fully with the Harvester Trust problem, and hoped that New Zealand would novor bo dominated by trusts, such as existed in America. Tho main points to bo aimed at in pnssirig laws to k..i trusts were to secure the farmers against exploitation and protect tho artisan. Mr Hardy was frequently applauded, nnd was accorded an unanimous and hearty vote of thanks. Mr J. Ivess addressed a. well-attended meeting nt tho East Oxford Public Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr R. H. Parish occupied the chair. The candidate's address was mainly in defence of tho liberal measures passed by tho Government, and condemnation of the Opposition. Th© candidate, after answering a few questions, was accorded a vote of thanks for his address. HURUNUI. r Mr A. W: Rutherford addressed a largo-meeting in the Foresters' Hall north Lobum, on Wednesday night.. He received a cordial reception, and, on the motion of Mr M. Fitzgibbon, was accorded, a vote of thanks for his address, and an expression of continued confidence in him as member. Mr B. Tracey occupied tihe chair. ASHBURTON. Mr John Studholme addressed a wellattended meeting of electors at Waterton on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Watson occupied tho chair. Tho candidate's speech was well reoeived, and at its conclusion, on- the motion of Mr H. Donaldson, seconded by. Mr J. Shearer, ho was tendered a very hearty vote of thanks for his address and wishes for his successful candidature. *•
