EDUCATION BOARD.

' The Education Board met yesterday, when there weje present , —Messrs J. itennie (chairman), D. Buddo, J. Hight, C. H. A. ,T. Opie, T. W. Adams, M. Dalziel nnd W. H. Peryman. The Building Committee reported as to several works in progress. Mr Garrard, the Board's superintendent of Technical Classes, had written reporting that there would be a small deficit at the end of the year on the Technical Classes, and early in January a sum of £240 would be temporarily required to meet payments. The matter was left for the Board of Managers, Mr Hight and Mr Russell to represent the Board on. tho classes being handed over. With respect to St. Albans, tho secretary was irstructed to prepare a description •of boundaries for the proposed, new district, and,to submit same to the Board at its next meeting, with the view, of then consulting the Committee. " The report was adopted. Ther Secretary suggested that the Papanut road would make a suitable boundary between the two districts for a time. Later on the new district would require to be added to, from the Fendalton and Papanui sides, when a further portion of the present main district could be included if neoeeary. The suggestion was adopted. The Appointments Committee recommended the following appointments:— Gust, Mr H. Robson, as master; Doric, Miss E. .Rogers, as mistress in sole charge; Glentunnel, Miss-H. M. Crowley, as mistress; West Eyreton, Miss O. Dalziel, as mistress. Owing to decreases in attendance and the obligations imposed on the Board by the Departmental regulations, the Board was recommended•: to advice the several committees concerned thai the services of teachers must be withdrawn as follows:—Eyreton, the mistress; Kaikoura Town, the assistant mistress, preparatory.to appointing.a pupil teacher; Rangiora, the junior assistant,mistress; Kaiapoi, a pupil teacher. -, ' r The report wae. adopted. The report of the Normal School and Technical Committee recommended the Board to approve of the invitation, given to school children to attend the, ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the.. International Exhibition on December 18th, so far as the city and •übnr-ban-pchools are concerned. Lieutenant-Colonel Loreday had written asking that instructions should be issued for the school cadets to parade on the occasion, as desired by the Minister. It was agreed to comply with tht request. The report was adopted. • It was resolved that a special meeting \ot the Board be held purpose of considering the division of the district into wards under tho amending Act, etc.* A letter was >cad from the Department re Teachers' Superannuation: Act, with reference'to the preparation of oer-" tain information, as to the salaries received by teachers in res.'xxst to-back services. It woe resolved that the return be supplied, and that the "'Department be asked to pay the cost.
