COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
The polling for the Courtenay arid Malvern ridingi of the Selwyn County Council took place yesterday, and resulted as follows:—Malvern R:dins_, Mr D. McMillan 114; Mr "VV. Watooa 10. Courtenay Riding, Mr Geo. Bedford 171; Mr C. Rudd 111. Tne election of three members for the Little River riding was held on Wednesday. Although the rain poured down nearly the whole day, there was the greatest interest taken, and a record poll resulted. The followine is the result:— S. B. Harris 117, John Coop 105, *W. Parkinson 97, M. Barclay 41, H. Blytho 28. Tho election held on Wednesday to fix on a representative for the Wakanui Riding on the Ashburton County Council, resulted in tho return of Mr John Cairns, with 155 votes, against 113 polled by Mr Hugo Friedlander. The election for the Mount Somers Riding resulted in the return of Mr Edward Gates, with 78 votes, against 69 polled by Mr Edward Nosworthy. In both these oases a new representative has defeated the old one. v For the Pahau Riding of the Amu.ri County Council, the result was as follows:—Mr W. Thomson 16; Mr W. Macfarlane 11, Mr H. Dinson 9. Messrs Thomson and Macfarlane were declared ! elected.
