FETE AT ST. MARY'S, ADDINGTON.

» ■ ' '- A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A parish fete was opened yesterday afternoon in the vicarage grounds of St. Mary's, at Addington, by Bi=hop Julius. The weather was exceedingly favourable, and when th-s Bishop arrived there was a Large gathering cf ladies and children on the 6oeno. The grounds were gaily decorated with bunting. On the lawn was a maypole, round which children danced to the strains of the Burnham Bond, and tho various stalls were disposed through the grounds. In declaring the fete dpen, his Lordship said that Mrs Bean had asked Mrs Julius to open the fete, but owing to her weak health it was not advisable that she should undertake any public work just now. He, therefore, took her place. He understood tliat the object for which tha fete was being held wm to provide funds for increasing the size of the schOolrcom and hall. No better good could be done to the Church and the parish than in this way. The stalls and stoJl-holders were as follows:—Produce stall: Mesdames Sray, W. Johnson. A. Johnson, and Ro- J gers, Work stall : Mosdame-' Schwartz, Morris Morton, Woods, Mc- j Grcgor and Turtill. Fancy stall: Mes- ' dames Downing and H. 'Wood., and the Mioses Heywood, Hobden. Bayncn. and Christmas. Flower stall: the Misses I'Anson, Johnson, and Ellis. Sweet stall, the Muses Cicsby end | Townend. Miss Shi. tcJiffo directed the dixnoing of the children round the maypole. In tho evening there wa--» a large attendance, good business beinr? done. Tho lighting at night, arranged hy the Gas C'-mpany, nos by noars of six 700 0., p. and two 400 c.p. lamps. I
