NEW BRIGHTON MAYORAL ELECTION.

TO THE EDITOR OF TUB PRESS. Bur, —Noticing a letter which appeared in your columns a day or two ago, commenting on the present Mayor's actions in connection with the Borough Council's affairs, and extolling the business capabilities of his opponent in ' eomiection with tho £3000 loan. I tnink Mr Mclntyre's friends would havo - 'done well to preserve a judicious silence on that subject, as it was a sadly bungled business from beginning to ♦nd, and certainly no credit to those in charge of tlie affair. On the other hand, Mr Winny has shown a thorough grasp of the work pertaining to the Council, and in every possible way ■shows himself capable of filling the position of Mayor with credit to tho borough. The writer has enjoyed special opportunities of noting the efficient manner in which Mr Winny •' carries out the duties of his offioe, and - wfth all due consideration to Mr Me- *. Intyre's abilities I would give the palm ' -to Mr Winny as the executive officer of tbe Council.—Yours, etc., WATCHFUL. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —So far from raising objections * to his candidature, the ratepayers / ahould bo grateful to Mr George Mcj_,.j Intyre for consenting to come forward. ;'\T_te borough has been in existence _*! about nine years, and during the two /-years of Mr Molntyre's Mayoralty more '. I'ood and permanent work was done than at any time before or since. The Council Chambers were erected, the " James street extension secured, the loan -for £3000 obtained at 3. per cent. , (which includes sinking fund), providing concrete kerbing and channelling, and - 'wells for flushing purposes, Bowhill street formed, and last but not least, ~ the boon of King Edward's well. It '. it not for the other side to raise ques- . ; tjons as to non-residence, because there - " are such things as glass houses. Mr "■ -Mclntyre told the deputation representing the requisitionists (of which I was pleated to form one) that he was not -, ' anxious for the office, and it was only ' * on being pressed that he gave way to their wishes and consented to serve the borough again if wanted.—Yours, etc. v- FAIRNESS.
