At the Sydney stock sales, held in .connection with the Reyal Agricultural Society's Show, three Ayrshire bulls belonging to J. Grant of New Zealand, •sold at 15, 21, and «2gs respectively. The milking test was - on by Mr Wedlock's cow, a Durham-Ayrshire cross. The three days' milkings yielded 199.9 pounds of milk, containing 8.64 pounda of butter. MR E. W. O"SULLIVAN. Mr E. W. CSullivan. ex-Minister for Pubiio Works, is a passenger by the Waikare. He goes to New Zealand to inquire into the working of State Insurance, compulsory arbitration, closer settlement, and the unemployed questions. FURTHER CASES OF PLAGUE. '-Two more cases of plsgue are reported. BTRICTLY QUARANTINED. The Tultala recently took a shipload of Coolies from Madras to Suva. She was strictly quarantined before resuming ber voyago. EFFECT OF A TIDAL WAVE. A shock of earthquake, which oocured in the Malo Pass, New Hebrides, at the end of March, was followed by a tidal wave, which lifted the schooner Lola, which was ashore, into deep water. A SCULLER'S DEATH. The death is announced of Charles Messenger, the one time famous sculler. ENTERTAINING THE POOR. The Lord Mayor yesterday entertained 1077 city poor at an Easter dinner in the Town Hall. JAPANESE SMUGGLERS. THURSDAY ISLAND, April 24. Japanese smugglers recently successfully got away with two -pearling luggers. THE BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received April 25th, 12.22 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 24. The bowling championship of Australasia was won by Young, of Chatswood, beating Gartnell, of Chatswood, by 21 to 17. The Victorian players failed to get into the final. /
