THE AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL.
(PBF-SS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) INVERCARGILL, April 23. At the Axemen's Carnival yesterday, G. A. Goold, of Tasmania, won the Single-Hand-pd Sawing Championship. P. Baird, Manawatu. won the Maiden Chop in lmin 45 3-oth sec. Carson and Mcintosh won thoir heat in the Double Sawing contest, from scratch. The Union Handicap, of 135 yds, was won by L. C. MacLachlan with 2yds start. Hanna (sJyds) was second, and Howarth (15.yds) third. Time, 12 l-sth sec. In the 220 yds Handicap Fisher (15yds) was first, Howarth (22 yds), 2nd, McLachlaD (scratch), 3. %Two feet divided tho men. Time, 21 4-sth sac. About 2500 people were present.
