/ THE ANNUAL MEETING.

-The annual meeting of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand was held . yesterday. Present — LieutenantColonel Slater (in the cbairt. the Mayor of Ohrifltchurch, Dr. Russell, the Revs. E. £. Chambers &nd W. 8. Bean, Super- - intendent Smith, Captain linn (secre- . tary), Mettrs Caygill, R. C. Bishop, and C. Hood-Williams. . % The annual report and balanoe-sheet, a summary of which has already been published, was taken as read, and on - the 'motion of the Chairman adopted. The Chairman etated that he had received a notification from the Government the sum of £150 had been forwarded as a grant to the Society. It was to be regretted that those who took an interest in the work of the SoJciety, outside the office-bearers, were % chiefly the recipients of the medals and their friends. Chambers, the Hon. H. F. Wigram, ', Lieutenant-Colonel Slater, Or. Russell, ' Messrs Frostkk, H. B. Kirk, W. Recce, JR. Smith. O. Hood-Williams, T. C. ' Field., and C. Ferrier; hon. treasurer, 'Mr E. Smith; hon. auditor; Mr W. Jameson; honorary medical officers, Drs. Ovenden, Irving, and Nedwill; .secretary, Captain-Linn. Dr. Russell suggested that a display be- made at the International Kxbibi- ' tion. Hβ gave notice of motion "That ■ the directors be requested to take into consideration the best means to be taken in connection with the proposed International Exhibition to bring the Society before the attention of the pqflic." The Rev. Mr Chambers asked whether the Humane Society of Australasia .had been written to on the subject of ■ their invasion of the territory of the Mew Zealand Society. - The Chairman said that he under;,stood not. The Rev. Mr Chambers moved— '- 'That a letter be sent to the Australian Society calling attention to the invasion of the territory of the New /Zealand Royal Humane Society by panting medals for cases in New Zealand waters."
