MEETING OF CREDITORS.
— _ A meeting of creditors was held yesterday morning in thecstateof Alexander Burnell, farmer, of Cheviot, before Mr Greenwood, Official Assignee. Tho etatemeat of bankrupt showed total debts £703 19s 2d, and assets £18, leaving a dificiency of £528 19s 2d. Tliere w<M- unsecured creditors for £172 19s 2d, and secured creditors to the amount of £536. The following were unsecured creditors for amount- over £5: —Mr J. J. Wooler, Amberley, £92 10s; Mr E. M. Truman, Cheviot, £17; Mr Lockhead, Cheviot, £7 7a 8d; Mr Langerson, Cheviot, £25; Messrs Black, Beattie, Christchurch, £9 10s; Mr E. Benn, Christchurch, £5. Tho secured creditor- were as follows: — R A. Burnell, Wyndham (son), £276 10s, wages and cash lent; Sv. J. Burnell, Cheviot (son), wages and cash lent, £253 10s; total, £536. The bankrupt stated that he had been at Cheviot for ten-years, and had at fast 100 acres. Four years ago he bought another 331 acres, all on the 999 years lea.se. Ho had no capital to start with. Latterly lie had kept 830 ishcep. which were sold under a bill of sale. They oiid not bring sufficient to satisfy the bill of «ile, however. His property liad been sold at £1696, after adjusting rates, etc. In reply to question*, bankrupt stated that both his "-ons hrfd worked for him, and lived with him on the farm. He was oupposed to pay tliem £1 a. week, but had not. been able to do so. He had kept them nnd th-oir families, however. The meeting wns adjourned to enable the Official Assignee to take counsel's opinion as to the position of tho sons in the estate.
