—^——<•- —■ • ■- THE CANTERBURY CENTRE. The annual meeting of the CaiTTerbury Cent-re of the Xcw Zealand Swimming Association was held at the Zetland Hotel on Friday evening. Mr W. E. D. Bishop presided, and there were about twenty .ckleigates present. The annual report stated that the amalgamation of the two governing bodies Ja.it March wa* cause for hearty congratulation. During the season thoOpawa, Lyttelton. and .Southbridge Clubs had johi?d the Centre, whilst the Leithfield Club was disbanded, leaving twelve cliibs affiliated, with a. total membership of 1109. At AVoolfton and Kaiapoi efforts were being made to form clubs. During the season thirteen carnivals of affiliated clubs •Here held, and the racing'was characterised by judicious_hnndicapping, which no doubt was responsible for the rccoTd entries (totalling 1624) in inter-club events. Thj Kohn" nudal was won by Mr FT. Sherwood, of tho Sydenham "Club. The 100 yards and 440 yards New Zealand Championships were won by H. A. Creaghe, of l>unedin. Tho School Boys' Championship was won by R. Ronayno, of Wilson's Private School. Tlie Centre congratulated Mr Walter Johnson, ink-r-eluh l.andicfipper, on the success of his efforts during the- Wiisnii. Tho balance-sheet showed ivceipt« for the Tear £55 17s 7d, and expenditure £46 6« sd, leaving a cash balance of £9 11s 2d. The report and balanoe-sheot were adoj>ted. The 100 Yards Provincial Championship was allotted to the Richmond Club's sports, and the 50 Yards Championship to tho .Southbridge sports. The Southbridge Club's sports programme was approved. Pursuant to notice, Mr {'. Kent moved —"That no alteration should be made in re.lav teams after the handicaps have been declared by the inter-club handicapper, and that tho last paragraph of Ruin 25, bearincr on tho same, matter, should b© deleted." Mr Foster moved as an amendment that one change should he allowed in the composition of a relay team, provided that the proposed new man was already on the programme, and that, notice of the change be given to the inter-club handicapper before half-post three. The amendment was. carried. Mr A. Oalvert moved that a deputation frf.m the Centre should wait on the Gity Council in support of the proposal to «i----t«-ihli*h tepi 1 baths in the. city. Mr A. Rountrec, who seconded llin mnt'irn, pointed out that the City Council was already prepared to adopt* the proposal, and had decided uprn the Crown Tif n works premises n.-> the cite of the baths. Mr Johnson «iid that the Council had recently appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter, and all particulars and details available had been submitted to them. Buchanan, Dr. Moorhouw, nnd the. Rev. W. S. Bean. Mr Haanilton gave notice to move that the 440 yards, 880 yards, and the water polo championships phould be added to Rulo 14, which specifies the provincial championship events which could be allotted to,,any club. Mr Hamilton, after pointing out the advantages tint would accrue to swimmers by encouraging long distance swimming, moved tha.t tho Centre should take into consideration the question of issuing profielencv <-crt ificatos to swimmers who could cover 'distances of 100, 220, 440, and 880 yards within specified times.
