m (SPECIAL TO THE "rRESS.") WELLINGTON, October 29. THE PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES. - Mr T. Mackenzie has given, notice lo ask the' Government whether, with a viewto carrying out tho work of Parliament with greater despatch, and also to make more widely known tlie fuller proceedings of tho House, they will, during the reces , ?, make inquiries into tho possibility or otherwise of using the present money expended in the cost of " Hansard" to better ' advantage, by considering (1) the abolition or mndiiieation of the- present method**; (2) the employment of the "Han-sard." staff partly in the preparation of the official record, awl,partly in preparing a summary of the proceedings of parliament for publication; and (3) the advisability of communicating with the leading newspapers of tho colony, with tho object of learning what Mibsidy would be required tn devote a certain tapace' daily to the publication of such summary of the proceedings of Parliament. A NEEDFUL AMENDMENT. No provision having been made in the Shops and Offices Bill by the House for nhops keeping open afCer 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, Mr Willis is endeavouring to get the Bill amended by the Council so that fchffc-e days may be treated as Saturdays.
