Judge Edwards sentenced John Thomas Bennett, with several aliases, to three years' imprisonment for false pretences, remarking that accused had commenced stealing in Auckland in 1866, and had been stealing at various places in the colony ever since. Eru Hore Warahihi, for forgery and uttering at Gisborae, was sentenced to two years. Neville Goldsmith, for brealcing and entering, received two years' imprisonment. Findlay received nine months' additional imprisonment for escaping from custody at Marlborough. John Thorpe, for theft, got two years, and James Wilson, for causing grievous bodily liann, three years. Arthur Rawson and James Atkinson pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaking into a dwelling at KhandaMaih, bu*. pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing from the dwelling. His Honour passed a sentence of eighteen months, to run concurrent with sentences already being served. Hugh Thomas Mullin and Henry Birney alias Hughes, for stealing articles from the steamer Rotoiti, were sentenced to nine montlis" and six months' imprisonment respectively. Chark-s Frederick Smith pleaded guilty to having on June 29th, at Khandallah, robbed Mary Conolley with violence of £5 4s in money, two rings, and two brooches. The -prisoner was sentenced to seven years' hard labour. Michael John Fitzgerald and William Barry were acquitted on charges of assault with intent to rob and ordinary assault. Edward Percy Hayes, for forgery and false pretences, was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. Albert Sims, aged 18, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a pirl of six years. Sentence was deferred. Patrick Kearney, charged with obtaining money by false pretences, was found not guilty. WELLINGTON. August 4. Charles Burrowes was charged with breaking and entering a warehouse at Wellington, and stealing therefrom 1400 cigars. The jury failed to agree. The Crrnvn Prosecutors application for a new trial was allowed, and the prisoner was remained till Saturday. Richard Mather, for stealing from a dwelling, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment.
