CANTERBURY AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE.
The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural College Board was held at the A. and P. As-ociation's rooms yesterday morning, when there were present:—Tlie Hon. E. C. J. Stevens (chairman), and Messrs J. Studholme, M. Murphy, W. F. M. Bucklev, and E. Richardson, jun. Mr W. Lowrie, Director Of the College, was also in attendance. Tlie Chairman said that shortly after their last meeting a letter had been received from Mr David McMillan, resigning his position na a member of the Board, on account of failing health, and since then they had sustained the loss of Mr McMillan through death. In every department and relation of life there had not been a more thoroughly intelligent and publicly urefnl colonist than Mr McMillan, and members of the Board had had ample opportunities of observing and benefiting by his intelligence and sound judgment. He moved — "That this Board places on record its deep regret at the loss it tevs sustained by the lamented death of Mr David McMillan, and desires to communicate this resolution to his family." Mr M. Murphy seconded the motion, which was carried, tho Board standing. The Chairman explained the steps that had betn taken to bring the matter of tho, proposv-d purchase of a Government run at Hakateramea before the Land Board and the Minister for Lands. , It was reported that Mr Geo. Gerard had taken up the lease of the Board's reserve at Hakateramea, formerly held by tho late Mr Geo. McMillan. The Director, was appointed returning officer, and instructed to take steps to fill tho vacancy on the Board caused by the death of the, late Mr David McMillan. Tho tender of Mr R. A. ■ Forbes- of £140 for alterations and repairs to a cottage was accepted, and accounts to the amount of £406 10s lld wero pasfod for payment. In reply to a member, Mr Lowrie reported : that there were thirty-eight students in residence, and there was room for a fewmore, but. the difficulty was to find outside work for more. Mr Murphy raid it would be a good thing if the students had some experience on a farm before coming to tlie College. Mr Lowrie said he hoped that next year the students would be all of that data. Mr Studholme gave notice to move—• "That a Finance Committee be appointed, consisting of the chairman and one other member of the Board, to go through the monthly accounts, receipts, and expenditure, and report on the same at each meeting of the Board." Tlie Board then adjourned till August 12th.
