LICENSES IN BRUCE.
TAKING -ADVANTAGE OF A TECHNICALITY: (rBESS ASSOCIATION TFXKCKAU-) DUNEDIN, June 3. The Bruce Licensing Committee m«t today, all the members teing present. In terms of the mandamus of the Supreme Court, tlue Committee decided , to issue licenses as from July Ist, 1903, to June 30th. 1904, to all applicants; to recommend the local body to charge only onetwelfth of the fee (£3 3.«), except in tlie caia of tho Glenore Hotel, for which £1 was recommended. When it was proposed to go on with the annual meeting, tho Chairman, Mr Cruickehank, S.M., said the point had been raised whether sufficient notice hadi been given by the advertisement calling the meeting. After legal argument had" been heard, a majority of the Committee (the ~.M. dissenting) decided that sufficient notice had not been given of the meeting, and on the ground of want of jurisdiction declined to consider the applications for licenses after tlie end of the pjesent month.
