A NEW SCHOOL INSPECTOR.

MR T. S. FOSTER, M.A. Mr T. S. Foster, M.A., headmaster of the West Christchurch School was yesterday morning elected inspector for the North Canterbury Education district, in place of Mr L. B. Wood, who had resigned. Mr C. H. A. T. Opie said it was a matter for satisfaction that so many applications for the position had been received from qualified persons all over the colony. Mr Foster was educated at the Rnngiora Church School, and having gained a Somes' Scholarship, removed to Christchurch, whore he attended Christ'« College for six yea.rs. Hβ was appointed master of the Church school at Addmgton., and in September, 1874, when it, with other schools, was token, over by the West Christchureh School Committee, he was appointed first assistant master at the main school. In May, 1881, he joined the staff of the Christchureh Boys' High School, and a year later, returned to the West Christchureh School as its headmaster. Mr Foster graduated B.A. at Canterbury College in 1881, and M.A. in the following year, ■with first-clase honours in languages and literature. He has long been a. member of the New Zealand Educational Institute, has served many yeaxs aa a member of the executive, and has also occupied the position of president. He faaa also been president of the North Canterbury Educational Institute, Canterbury College Dialectic Society, and the University Court of Convocation. He was formerly chairman of the Canterbury College Graduates' Association, and is still a member of the Canterbury College Board of Gorernom.
