NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
The annual general meeting of'the Scottish Society -will be held on Thursday evening, , 'and .the Chief .Willi be able to rocord an uuprecedentedly successful year. The meeting at Ashburtou in connection with the land tenure question, which will be addressed by Mr J. G. Wilson, colonial president of the Fanners' Union, and Air Chas. Lewis, M.H.R. will take place tonight. Mr F. W. Henley has been elected a Councillor of the-borough of Wookton. ' The managers of the Technical Associated Classes have decided to open a special class for higher grade bookkeeping, .accountancy, and commercial law, to prepare students for the examinations of the Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, which should prove valuable to those engaged in commercial and banking pursuits. Mr G. W. Hulme, accountant and auditor, has been appointed instructor, and the first meeting will be held on Friday, in the technical class rooms, Canterbury Hnll, where entries can now be made. New students who have joined the elementary bookkeeping class are requested to meet on Thursday, instead of Friday. The polling for the election of a member of the Board of Education, in place of Mr D, McMillan, resigned, will take place to-daV.. The candidates are Messrs J. Hight, M.A., and W. Radcliffe. An oripm recital will be given at St. Barnaban's, Fendalton, to-morrow evening, by Miss J. Black, Mus. Bac. Mrs Burns will be the vocal soloist. Mr A. W. Martin, representative of Dr. J. A. Sherman, is still in Christchnrch, and. publishes particulars and a local testimonial as to his treatment for rapture.
