In fact fine wools, in sympathy with the southern market*, are slightly* taaier. It .was generally expteted thnt thtre would lie an all-round drop, owing to the threatened war between Russia and Japan, but local buyers evidently saw no cause for alarm. Following are principal, prices realised: —• Fino crossbred. 7d to'Bjd; medium crossbivd. to 7|d; coarse crossbred, s|d to 6|d; Shropshire, 6d to 8d; pieces?, 3jd t.> 4|d; btillks. 3d to 4d: locks. 2d to 23d. The sales throughout were brisk, and pric-ee to the close were Trell maintained.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, hnve received the following cable message from their London office, under date January 11th: —"The new arrivals for the first series of wool sales have amounted ti 190,000 bales, of which 58,000 bales have been forwarded direct to manufacturers) at Home and abroad, leaving, 5000 bales carried forward from last series, 137,000 bales available for sale."
