The Department of ludustrke and Cow* merce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, November 21at:—"There-has been more inclination to purchase mutton during the ?ast week, but still tbe market closed did!, he average prices to-day were:—Canterbury brands 4d, Dunedin, Southland, and W.M.E. Company 3gd, other North Island brands 3_d, ewes 3d. The lamb market is quiet, the average price Jo-day being: —Canterbury brands 4Jd, brands other than Canterbury 4gd, tegs 4§d. y The beef market is somewhat steadier, the average price to-day being: 3_d to 3 5-6 d, fores 2jd. The butter market is weak, the price of choicest New Zealand being 104s per cwt, with moderate demand for choicest only. Australian is at 104s, Argentine 102s, Danish 113s, Siberian 935, Irish 107s, Canadian 98*. The cheese market is steady, at the prices cabled last week. The hemp market ia .active, and -dvancing, the price of good fair Wellirfgton .grade on spot being £31 16* j November and December shipment* were over-sold, and are now selling at £33 j January to -larch shipments £31 10a. Tbe price of Manila hemp, fair current grade on epot to-day is £37 10s. The cocksfoot market, is firm, but with little doing. The average price to-day of bright, dean New Zealand seed, weighing 171b a bushel, oh spot, is from 50s to 61# per cwt. The weather Tnow is rather more favourable, but reoeutly the demand haa been chiefly for lighter qualities of seed.
