(SFECIA- TO "THE PRESS/*) WELLINGTON, November 23. Tlie Government is evidently hopeful of closing the session before breakfast. The Legislative Council finished its work early in the morning, but its member- have been kept on to pass the Appropriation Bill. Tlie Council has adjourned from hour to hour, the number of member* in attendance becoming , gradually . less, till, at twenty minutes to one there were only eight present. The Hon. A.- Pitt asked tlie Speaker to leave the chair for an hour, and one member promptly remarked that he intended to go to bed. Mr Mahuta, who is not a talkative member, thought the occasion jouoSm. a -little eloquence. With tlie aidof an" ittterpf eter, he told the Council that he wished to know if they should go on, and why it,was that so many members had run away. In spite of Mr Mahuta's protest, the Speaker left the chair for an hour.
