The weather was fine and very warm, and the attendance limited. Noble partnered Hickson, and Bosanquet and Arnold opened the attack. Hickson, by some pretty strokes', was soon in double figures, and Noble followed suit in & few oyen. With the board showing 148, Braund was tried for tbe first time daring ttffc match in place of Arnold, while Hirst relieved Bosanquet. The change had the desired effect, Hirst clean bowling Noble. Seven for 152. Hopkins was next. Hickson treated Braund's legbreak with considerable respect, and for a long period play was slow. Hickson, by sound cricket, gradually raised his score to 30, when _c lifted one to the boundary, where Warner brought off an easy catch. Eight for 164. .Kelly followed, but the scoring was still slow. Hirst was here no-balled twice. Arnold took the ball from Braund, and at 185 Hirst gaye way to Bosanquet. Runs came mora freely with the change, but just as the luncheon adjournment was about to tee taken Kelly got leg before to Bosanquet. Nine for 197.
When Mcßeth, the last man, went in after lunch, 14 runs were still wanted to save an innings defeat. Br&und relieved. Arnold, and after four rubs bad been added Hopkins went out to Braund, and Lillejr'stumped him, the innings closing for 201 runs, England winning by an innings and 10 runs.
