CHARITABLE AID ACCOUNTS.
The balance-sheet of the Ashburton and North Canterbury United Charitable Aid Board for the year ended March 31st last lias made its appearance. Tito year begun with a credit "balance of £2138 8s lid, and ended with a debit balance of £l4 17s lid. The receipts were £15,946 4s Bd, including £5598 0s 4d from local bodies for the year, and £437 15s 5d for the previous year. The voluntary contributions amounted to £53 lis Id, and the income from bequests to £1683 16s 9d. The subsidies from the consolidated
fund amounted to £6947 14a 9d. The expenditure for the year amounted to £18,099 lis 6d. Of fhis eum £5828 12s 9d was disbursed in charitable aid, and £4939 16s 7d was expended on the different institutions (including £147 13s lid on that in Armagh street, £1612 0s 4d on the Ashburton Home, and £1540 15s
5d on the. Memorial Home). The sum of £5334 10s 3d was spent on the new Imiklirig at Ashburton. The assets amountbuilding at Ashburton. The liabilities to £1035 Is 7d. The amount recovered from ihmales at the Armagh street depotwas *<l2 17s 6d. The. eos+ per head at the Ashburton Old Men's Home was 10s &Ul. The Female Refuge at Linwood cost £458 17s 4d to maintain, and £ls 14s waa received as rent of the cottage. The Jubilee Memorial Home cost £l6lO 2s lOd » to maintain, and the cost per head j>er ■week was 9s The cost of the Lyttelton Orphanage was £839 16s 2d. including £353 13s 7d paid for an average of 21 children boarded out. The usual amount paid for children boarded out is 6s a week. The destitute children who were boarded out, apart from those at the Orphanage, cost £525 7s 2d. There were 39 under the Board'* supervision on March olst. The maintenance of children at Industrial Schools during the year cost £BIO Is. 9d. There Mere 43 so maintained at 'March 31st. The outdoor relief Mas distributed as follow*:—Christ church city, £l3lß 15s lOd; Sydenham. £B2O 2s 8d: St. Albans. £390 8s 7d; Linwood, £423 2s Id: Woolston. £ll3 18s 3d: New Brighton, £125 18.- 8d: Sumner. £sl 0s 2d; Kaiapoi, £94 4s 9d; Rangiora, £l/0 lis 6d: Lvttelton, £268 Os 8d : &lwvp.
