SINGULAR ELECTRIC DISTURBANCE.
TELEGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTED IN PRANCE.
United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, November 1. France was isolated for the greater part of to-day from telegraphic and telephonic communication with tho rest of Europe and America. Internal communication is now interrupted. The disturbance is attributed to severe electrical earth disturbances, due io seismic and atmospheric phenomena, including tho Aurora Borealis. Communication was suddenly restored at sunset. Nil' J. W. Mason, o;«i»v;r bi charge of tho Christchurch telegraph station, states that tho effects of an electric disturbance were noticeable locally on Saturday and Sunday nights. Considerable difficulty was experienced in working the wires, and the galvanometer- needle was deflected. Similar effects have been observed previously during the occurrence of the Aurora Australia, but this phenomenon was not present on Saturday cr Sunday to account for the influence on the wires and instruments.
