It was resolved that the Inspector be written to, asking for the services of the constable as suggested. Permiraion was granted the Engineers to hold their camp in the Park. The Mayor of Christchurch said that he had sent, the letter signed by the Board, the Selwyn County Council, and the City Council, to the Government, but received no answer. He subsequently saw the Minister for Lands (Mr Duncan), who said that the Bill would be pushed on, enabling the local bodies to contribute towards the funds of the proposed new Board. The Minister further said that the Government would not insist on having representation on the Board, but they would have no objection to nominate as members anyone whom the contributing bodies recommended. Mr Duncan did not think that the Government would contribute this year, but they might do so later. It was suggested that the Board might promote a local 'Bill nest session, when the contributing bodies arrived at a conclusion as to the form the new Board should take.

In reply to the Chairman, the Mayor said that perhaps if each local body contributing nominated one mej?jer, this would do until the local Bill was brought forward.
