SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

WALTHAM. A meeting of the Waltham School Committee was held on October 15th. Present —Messrs C. V. Harvey (chairman). Wraight, Cow. Clifford, Ditfort, Mortlock, and Sears. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the past- four weeks had been 493, tltf roll number being 580. It was decided to inform the Board that tlia Committee wished the walls to be made dir, and to point out that it is too late to plant macrocat pa along the caretaker's boundary. Accounts for £2 2s 8d were passed for payment. It was decided to request the Board to renew the application for a special grant for an additional room. Messrs Eldridge arid Besley were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. The School will be closed for the King’s Birthday and Show Day. A special meeting of the Committee will be held on October 26th to consider the construction of a bath. SEFTON. The Sefton School Committee met on October 7th. Present —Messrs Anderson (chairman). McLeod, Banks, Wilson, and Rev. Anderson. The master reported a roll number of 100, and an average attendance of 82.2. Accounts amounting to £5 17s lid were passed for payment. The gorse and brooom on the road will be cleared. WOOLSTOX. The Wools ton School Committee met on October 12th.. The Committee passed a resolution regretting that facilities were not available in Christchurch for free secondary education. The Board of Education wrote confirming the appointment of Missis Mills a.s first assistant mistress. The headmaster reported the average attendance as 424, and the number on the roll as 496. Mr Denham was granted leave- to attend the University examination. It was decided to draw the Council’s attention to the incomplete state of the fencing round the Coronation Bath, and also to the stagnant pool near the hath. It- was resolved to send letters of condolence to Mr Faulkner and Mr ,T. T. Trerise. The Finance Committee reported that there was a debit balance of £ls 16s. RlCju.-j.OND. The Richmond School Committee met on Wednesday. Present —Messrs H, B. Sorensen, Ward, Hibson. Hughes, Darlow, and Shaw. The head master’s report showed that the attendance was very low, owing to an epidemic of mumps. In one class 50 pupils out of 86 had been absent. A deputation from the Richmond Swimming Club waited on the Committee, and satisfactory arrangements were made for the coming season. The Committee approved of a proposal to bold an entertainment- in aid of the school funds. The members expressed their gratification- that master had recovered from his recent illness. ; BURWOOD. The Burwood School Committee met on October 13th. Present —Messrs Reaby, Campbell, -Self, Brand, Do Lacour, and li. H. Little. The Avon Road Board wrote that repairs would be effected to the path in front of school as soon- as possible. It was decided to hold two concerts in aid of the school funds and prizes The master reported the average-.attendance to be 12, with a total of 107 on the roll. In his report on the annual examination, JMr L. B. Wood complimented the master, blr G. Davidson, on his marked success Conversational lessons, brush drawing, and plasticene modelling in the infant school, under the mistress, Miss Spence, presented their best featured. I ,
