DEATH OF MR E. W. TURTON.
The decease of Mr E-W. Turton, who, for some twenty-five, years was a member of • the Christcnurch Volunteer Fire BriStld and also Superintendent, took plao» le*k night. "Mr Turton arrived with bis perv - eats, in fihe ship William Miles, from Brie* tol, about the year 1858. The family entered into farming operations on the Ferry road, cad after «ome years removed to tfc» , iiiddleton Farm, on the Ricearton road, and subsequently to the racecourse. 3£f Turton then entered the employment of Meters Ballantyne and Co., and remained there till the time of hie death, havinjp completed some thirty-nine years of eervioe. The firm held Mr Turton ia euch high » - spec* and esteem that they had an oilpainting of him executed by -Mr BaUfour. Air Tarton joined the No. 1 Company Om- -, Urtrorv Rifle Volunteers, under Captain . Ora&bie Ward, in 1864,, and remained in . the company until it» change into the B Batteiy.
