DURHAM STREET CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING.

There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Durham street Church last evening. The Rev. W. Baumber stated that the congregations at Uie various sen-ices had been well maintained during the year, especially in the evenings. The Sunday School had suffered for a while from want of a. Superintendent, butt Mr J. Lomas had been appointed, and with an excellent teadhing staff was now caiTying on very good work. The membership of the. Church had suffered largely by removals, but in spite of this there was an increase of four on last year. They had been unfortunate alfio in the death of ex-nfa very old members, including Mr N. Martin, one of the trustee*, (Mies Ash-win, who had held a seat in the Church since its erection, ami Mrs Williams. The Ladies' Guild, besides providing for the maintenance of the parsonage, had been able to contribute £26 towards the wiping off of the Church debt. The Christian Endeavour Society and . Literary and Debating Society had held their meetings regularly. Special mention must be made of the "splendid service and increasing efficiency of the choir, under Mr H. Wells, the Church organist. In conclusion, Mr Baumber stated that he was anxious that his last year in connection with tite. work should be one of prosperity, and he urged on officers and members to work heartily with that object. The statement of finances slewed , that, the .tna-t debt now stood at TAOO, £200 having been paid off during the year. The total income for the Inst twelve months was £1199 7e 9d. The- Rev. C. H. Laws, 8.A., gave a brief address, ard the following anthems were jriven by the choir:—"Hear My Prayer" (Mtudelsohn), "The Wilderness" (Weeley), "If with all your hearts" (Menddsohn), and "Lord God of Abraham" (from Elijah).
