HOYAL HUMANE SOCIETY.
A meeting of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand was held in the office of the Secretary (Mr ■&. Linn), yesterday. Present—Colonel Slater (in the chair), Dr. Russell, the Rev. W. S. Bean, Superintendent K. Smith, and Mr J. A. Frostick. An apology for absence was received from the Rev. Mr Chambers, and a notice of motion given by him that, 'ladies be admitted members at a fee of 5s per annum, was held over pending his return. The question of holding a bazaar in aid of the Society's funds wae also held over. Correspondence from 'Mr Joseph Piper with regard to the Slinn award, in which it was maintained that another person was entitled to more credit than Slinn, wae received, the matter having been fully dealt with before. The question of appointing further vicepatrons was left to Colonel Slater and Dr. Russell, to report on at next meeting. The following awards were made: — Jamee Knowles, jun. (Napier), who had pieviously received from the Society, in addition to awards from (the Royal Humane Society of Australasia, a'letter of commendation, silver medal and silver clasp, was awarded a gold medal, the next highest award to the Stead gold medal; Vae-Vas-o-Ronga (Cook Islands), who has already a silver medal, a silver deep; Constable L. J. Cockery (Wellington)., who already hue the Society's certificate, a silver medal; Charles Hirawaui (Te Aroha), silver medal; Frederick Kregan (Waverley), silver medal • Charles Hansen (Gisborne), silver medal; Richard Cassidy (Invercargill), bronze medal; Matthew Bennie- (Brunnerton), bronze medal; Hannah M. Mosley (Stirling), framed certificate; Emily R. Barron (Ellerelie), framed certificate; Arthur Shapton Richards (Gisborne), certificate; Robert Hu l ! (Cliristchurcli), certificate; Captain W. D. Peid (Auckland), special letter of commendation. Letters offoommendation were also awarded as follows:—Elizabeth Ferrier (Fairfax); Constable A. Skinner (Auckland) ; Constable Jjjnes Cahill (Auckland): Jamee Kane (Timaru); Mary Khouri (Christchurch). It was decided to send the friends of I. J. Hoiby (Gisborne) a memorial certificate, Hoiby having lost his life in an attempt to save another from drowning.
