TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.
Sir, —In answer to the very uncomplimentary remarks made by "Dainty" in Monday's "Press," I should like to say a few words. In the first place, I don't think by the way "Dainty" refers to butchers that he can be any judge of what a tradesman really _». a.s there are several butchers working in Christchurch at the present time that would be hard to beat in any part of the world as far aa tradesmansnip is concerned. Hint I can safely say, ;ind I have seen a little bit of the country, and have not been thirty years in New Zealand either, so I have had a chance of seeing other cities. Then, again, "Dainty" seems to think that meat should be carved up in New Zealand the same as it is in England, but if he is a person who takes notice of different customs he will see that every ce'i'ny lias a different way of cutting up meat. But. I am prepared to say that if "Dibinty"' will pay the same, price as is charged f«« - the different joints at Home any but.iior in Christchurch will cut the meat up, and al.s,> trim it up in the same manner as it. is done in London, but it is a m_tt?r of when you are in Rome of doing as the Romans do, and I am sure he has no need to complain in the respect of cutting up his meat, as he. can have it cut up to suit even the most fastidious. Now, I am sorry to have to trouble you with these few line-, but I could not let such a slur on my fellow-tradesmen go by unanswered, as although some people are hard to please, it- i« really no fault in regard to tradesmanship. as "Dainty" would try to make jieop'.e believe.—Yours, etc., JOSEPH NIND. Chii-tc-urcli, April 27th.
