At West Christchurch there was 'hb attendance of between twenty and thirty householders, and Mr G. .JK -Morris, chairman of the . The report of the Committee stated thnt the efficiency which half been oharacteristac of the school for many years previously had been well maintained during the year that hod just closed. ; Though-the Committee, with the exercise of tihe'tttmo*t economy, had managed to have a larger balance in hand than last year, it wo* ft'lll unable to face the expenditure neoesearj" to renew the blinds of the sohool, which were estimated to cost about £22. The Committee had applied to the Board for its; share of the extra grant, made by Parliament for school purposes, but "the only result was that the Board stated'that it Jjad endeavoured in vain to get a proportion of the grant from the Department. *tn conclusion, the Committee expressed ite gratification at the fact that a former pupil of the sohool, Dr. Chilton, had been appointed Professor of Biology at C!a_terb_ry College. The receipts had amounted to £195 14* 9d, and the expenditure to _*172 2s 2d t leaving a credit balance of £23 12a 7d. '";."• '.;'":
The report, was adopted. ~'.'"' The following Committee was elected J— Dr. Chilton, Dr. Moorhouse, and Meesrp C. D. Morris, J. Sinclair, G. T. Ohisnell, S. MoMurray, J. H. Jones, J. J. Isto-toi*, and G. Bafrell.
A vote of thanks was passed to tire retiring Committee, and. regret was expressed that Mr G. Watson has not been able to act on the new" Committee. The chairman, in moving a vote of thanks to the staff, and especially to the headmaster (Mr T. S. Foster), spoke very highly of the good management and discipline in the school. N Mr G. Watson seconded tho motion, which was carried, and Mr Foster returned thanks. Hho Committee was requested to devise some scheme for extending the present system of primary education. .--"-:' At a meeting of the Committee, held ■>" ', afterwards, Mr Morris was re-elected , . chairman, and Mr A. P. Farrow secretary "- and treasurer. It was decided to meet on the second Wednesday in the month, at 7.30 p.m. in the winter and n in the - summer.
