GREATER CHRISTCHURCH.
So far as can bo judged by outward appearances, the interest being shown in the approae:hing election of councillors to the Christchurch City Council, whioh takes place to-morrow, between 9 a.m. anc] 7 p.m., is somewhat languid. In the Sydenham Ward the contest gives piomise, as the election day approaches, of developing some interesting features.
Following the excellent plan adopted in connection with the poll taken on the amalgamation proposals, it is intended to have the different polling booths indicated by a prominent notice, intimating that the building it :s attached to is a polling booth.
Voters in the Sydenham Ward should note that the polling booth at the Borough Council office is at the new muniepal buildings, Colombo street, and not the old Borough Council Chambers in Bowen street.
The total number of persons on the rolLs of the different ward- of the City of Christchurch is 9744, as compared with 9674, the total number on the rolls when the vote on amalgamation was taken in January last—a total increase of 70. The total number on»_he Sydenliam ward roll, as given in Friday's issue, was incorrect, and should have* been 2919 instead of 2821. The number on tlie roll when the Greater Christchurch vote was taken was 2779.
Mr F. J. Barlow, a candidate for the St. Albans ward, inserts a notice soliciting the votes of electors.
Last night Mr W. Radcliffe, a candidate for the Mayoralty of Lyttelton, addressed a meeting of the burgesses in the Colonists' Hall. The chair was occupied by Mr N. Schumacher, and there was a good attendance. Captain Whitby, another candidate, also addressed the meeting. Both candidates answered a rjumber of questions.
