The Moraington tramway, which was destroyed by the fire, will be in running order next week under the control of the Borough Council. A breach of promise case is set for hearing at the Supreme Court next week. The parties belong to the country, and the damages claimed are £500. The educational system was severely handled by the Rev. Dr. Waddell last night. In the first place, he said, it left open no dooffor specialisation, nnd, secondly, it ruined the faculties of observation. It proceeded on the assumption that the children were like rows of empty buckets, of equal size, capable of being filled with an equal number of oranges, and it was the business of the teacher to perform this task for them. But we had, however, reached an ago of specialisation, and, in ordinary life, there was no such thing as all-round culture. The present day teacher was largely a machine set to work out a certain lesuifc in a certain time. A sample of water taken from a house-top, on being analysed by Dr. Black, was condemned as utterly unfit for household purposes, and, as a result, the Health Officer has written to the City Council urging the necessity of having water supplied to householders efficiently filtered, and the advisability of having a proper system of filtration "in connection witl the new water supply scheme.
