DR. MORGAN GRACE, M.L.C.

'PRESS ASSOCIATION TSLEOBAM.) WELLINGTON, April 19. Dr. Grace, M.L.C., died this morning after a long illness. He had been a member of the Legislative Council since 1870, and a resident of Wellington ainco 1866. Dr. Grace, who was born in Clonmel, Ireland, studied for the medical profession in Dublin, Paris, and Edinburgh. He served during the New Zealand War of 1860, and became principal medical officer to the New Zealand Forces in 1865. He practised! h_» profession in Wellington since 1866. Dr. Grace died during the nigh, after a painful illness. For some weeks past it was known that his chances of recovery were practically hopeless. Aa operation was performe*! at his own urgent request, but he himself must have known that this could hardly have saved him. Though often in great pain, ho bore his illness with great fortitude. He had wonderfully cheery spirits, and even within the. last few days he chatted and joked with tha visitors who sat by his bedside He was very well known in this district, and waa universally respected.

The Hon. Morgan Stanislaus Grace, C.M.G-. M.L.C., Count of the Holy Roman Empire, was tlie son of James Grace, of Sheffield House, Queen's County, Ireland* and Ellen Mary (Russell) his wife, and waa born at Clonmel, County Tipperary, on February 28th, 1837. Ha arrived in At-cfc-land, New Zealand, on June 20th, 1860, aotV having been staff assistant srargoon bj the Army Medical Department, was appointeesurgeon, and subsequently surgeon-general,, in the 'colonial military forces. He manned at Wellington, New Zealand, on January 26th, 1866, Agnes Mary, daughter of the late Hon. John Johnstone, ML.C.
