COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL AT KAIAPOI
Last night a complimentary social was given by the public of Kaiapoi in the Oddfellows' Hall to Dr. H. Compton Parsons, on his leaving for England, after a residence of several years in the district. Mr R. Moore occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of ladies and gentlemen. The toast of "The King" waa proposed by the Chairman. "The Navy, Army, and Volunteers" was proposed by Rev. J. Holland, and responded to by Captain E. E. Papprill. Dr. Murray proposed "The Mayor and Borough Council," coupled with the name of Cr. A. Pearoe, a senior Councillor.. The toast of "The Guest" was proposed by the Chairman, who presented Dr. Parsons with a bandeome painting. T3m> epeaker referred to the regret felt at Dr. Parsons'e departure, and eaid that gentlemnn had been ever ready to assist not only local institutions, bub help private people. Dr. Pomona suitably acknowledged the honour paid frim, Songs -were eung by Miesea Wilson, Young, KlftwortiU. Mia R. Moore, and Mr W. Black*
