OPIUM SMUGGLING.
(PKISS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, April 17. Dr. McArthur, S.M., gave this decision to-day in the case of the Commissioner of Customs v Prkke, a charge of bringing into tlw colony, restricted goods, and; knowingly enquiring the possession of prohibited t-'oods, namely, opium. The defence wae :.h vt the sections of the Act of 1882, under wiuch the charge was brought, were imp'.iedly repealed by the Act of 1901. His Worship held that this was not so, and fired Priake £100.
