EDUCATION BOARD,
The Education Board met yesterday. Present—Messrs C. A. C. Hardy, M.H.R. (Chairman), J. Rennie, C. Opie, H. W. Pe.Tvman, M. Dalziel. T. W. Aelams. and D. Buddo, M.H.R. Tho Buildings* Committee reported that the Birch Hill School hud been moved to Ahhley Gorge, the site to bo approved by the Board. In reply to a communication received, the Board decided to state that it had not lo«t sight of tlie application for the erection of a pcliool at North Rakaia, but that the present, time was not considered opportune. Thanks were expressed to the Board's Secretary (Mr H. C. Lane) for his work in connection with the visit of tlie school children to tho Squadron, and it, was decided to write tlianking the Secretary f° r the Harbour Board t-Ur C. Hoed-Wiliiams) for his asr-istanie on the same occasion. A motion was passed expressing the Board.l ? appreciatic>ii of the -curtesy, sympathy, and attention of the Admiral, officers, and sailors of -lie Squadron, in regard to the children's visit. Out of fivo applicants. Mr T. Hughes was appointed as Acting-Inspector during the absence of Dr. Anderson, subject to satisfactory arrangements being made with the Committee c.l the Walt ham School. Dr. Anderson leaves nest May for a visit to England. The following appointment-, were made; —Mr A. J. Mayne, assistant master, secondary department. Kaiapoi; Mr J. G. Polse-n. master, Spot-wood; Miss E. Thompson, mistress, Ay he-bury; Mis*. J. JMcKh.mii. mistress. Honiebush; Miss J. Envin, mistress, Riverside; Miss A. Oxbv, mi-tree*.-:, Y-ldhurst; Miss H. M. Kent, assistiinS. mistress, Lyttelton. The resijr-itionn of Mr J. G. Poison, assistant master at Addington, and Miss E. E. Thompson, niistiv** _t Longbeach, were received and accepted. The engagements of the following probationary pupil teacher- were confirmed:—Misses Helen A. Honvil and Gladys Marshall, St. Albir-s; AnnieLynskey, Kaiapoi; Martha McKinney. New Brighton : Natalie Cole. Lyttelton West: and Bessie Lace. RanaiorThe following appointments to High School Boards were made:—Akaroa. Mr 11. Latter; Ashburton, Rev. G. B. Ingiis ar.d Mr A. Orr; Rangiora, Mr A. Bruce.
