Constable Clarksou said that at the police depot the woman said she was guilty of stealing the purse, and that she gave it to the man. The male accused, who was sworn, said be wae at MoCornmck'a house in the afternoon. He told the female that if she had taken 4ihe money she had better return it, find'she gave him the purse, which he intended to band back to the owner. The female accused was rather ihazy as to what occurred, and did nob remember anything of the alleged circumstanoee. After further evidence had been given, Barclay was sentenced to_.two months' imprisonment, and Vallance 'to one month. > ■ ■ ■ - , ALLEGED THEFT AT WELLINGTON. •Millice Doreen was charged with having stolen a ring, valued at £1 17s 6d, the property of Emma Wallace, of Wellington. She pleaded -not,guilty, but she admitted "having been with the young lady wio took tie ring." Chief Detective Chxystal said the ring had been taken from Miss Wallace's bedroom, where the girls had spent an hour, and after 'they left the article was missed THe accused said that sooner than be remanded to Wellington' she would plead guilty, if that would settle it. The Chairman eaid the .Bench were not in possession of the facts,-and consequently could not deal with trie case. The accused was remanded to appear at Wellington on Wednesday, April Ist.
