MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of vie General Committee for the Rolleston Memorial was held at the City Council Chambers yesterday. The Hon. C. C. Bowen presided, and there was a good attendance. The Secretary (Mr E. Lewis) said that he had communicated with gentlemen hi the North and! South Island, and the answers received had been of a most, favourable character. He thought now that a circular should be issued, signed by the Chairman, which might result in v very substantial result to the Fund. Thsre was ulso a letter from Mr E. W. Seager, with reference to the giving by him of a. lecture on fOld Canterbury," in aid l of the Fund". Mr J. Anderson suggested that the Committee should! arrange for o> shilling subscription, to be raised throughout the Island. The Chairman said that they were receiving cheques for £10 and lower from people from Otago and Auckland. It was resolved that the circular, as suggested, be printed and circulated throughout the colony. ' It was resolved that Mr Seager's offer for the giving of a lecture in aid of the Fund be accepted with thanks, and that the secretary be requested to communicate with the Boards of Education of North and South Canterbury, with a view to facilitating the lectures of Mr Seager. On the motion of Mr Witty it was resolved that the papers be asked to open a subscription list. It was also decided that advertisements should bo instiled in the papers, asking for subscriptions. In reply to Dr. Levinge, the Chairman said that several letters had been sent to friends of Mr Rolleston in England and Australia.
