Owing to the slackness: of work in Woolwich Arsenal, a thousand men are under long notice of discharge. Four hundred left yesterday. Many are emigrating to Canada. The Right Hon. St. John Brodrick. Secretary for War, replying to a question in the House of Commons by Mr "Will" Crooks, the newly-elected member for Woolwich, said the Government was better able than private contractors to lay idle a portion of their factories.
