THE LICENSING ELECTIONS.
■■ ■ ♦ The final results of the Selwyn Licencing election are now to hand, and Messrs Geo. Rutherford, D. McMillan, juii., John Lambve, Joseph Batty, and Thomas Lasgk-y have been declared elected. (press association telegrams.) DUNEDIN, March 30. Keen interest was taken in the licensing election for Bruce to-day. The result wae the return of the prohibition candidates ac follows: —Rev. P. B. Fraaer 1794, Mcfcfciinming 1793, A. Dunlop 1792, J. Adam 1772, H. H. Fraxer 1760. The moderate candidates polled:— J. Tough 1168, Dr. Fitzgerald 1157, W. Noble 1157, J. A. Anderson 1149, R. Craig 1141. Tlte result was received in Milton by groans and cheering, the latter predominating. It is understood that the new committee will decline to grant any licensee in view of the result of the local option poll. WELLINGTON, March 30. At the Otaki licensing election five moderates wero elected. iIARTON, March 30. Complete returns received on Saturday for Rangitikei show that four moderates and onu temperance candidate were returned. CARTER-TON, March 30. For tiie Wairarapa Licensing Committee there was no contest, and the old moderate committee was re-elected. RUSSELL, March 30.
