PRESS ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING,

At the twenty-e«cf>nd β-rmual meeting of the shareholders of the United Press Association, which was held in ths Industrial Association's rooms, Canterbury Hall, yesterday afternoon, there were present—Messrs H. Bretfc (Auckland " Evening Star," chairman), E. W: Knowles (Napier "Telegraph"), p. Dinwiddie ("Hawke's Bay Herald , '), J. 0. Wilkin ("Lyttelton Times"). G. Fenwick ("Otago Daily Times"), G. Bell (Dunedin "Star"), H. Horton ("New Zealand HeraM"), L. Blundell (Wellington "Evening Post"), M. Kennedy ("New Zealand Times"), W. Atkin (Westport "News"), W. Gothard (Westport "Times"). E. G. Kerr ("Timaru Herald"), A. R. Muir ("Poverty Bay Herald"), W. A. Parkinson (" Hawera and Normanby Star"), Hon. H. Feldwick ("Southland News"), B. J. Gilmour ("Southland Times"). Hon. W. M'Cullough (Thames "Star"), F. W. Jones (Wanganui "Herald"), G. Carson (Wanganui "Chronicle"), G. Kirton (Feilding "Star"), and T. H. Bannehr (Nelson " Colonist.") Messrs P. Selig (Christchurch "Press"). J. L. Kelly ("New Zealand Timra"), and M. Cohen (Dnncdia "Star") were also preeent by permission. The annual report and balance eheet were adopted, after a brief discussion. Mr L. Blundell was re-elected director, representing evening papers, without opposition. ■ Jj'or the position of director, representing morning papers, there were four candidates. Mr 'M. Kennedy having withdrawn, the ballot resulted in the election of Mr G. G. Stead, of the Christchurcli "Pre*e." Motions were proposed to alter the tides of association in the direction of increasing the number of directors, or making retiring directors ineligible for reelection for one year, but both were lost on the voices. Dunedin was selected as the next place of meeting.

Last 'evening the members %f the Association and visiting Pressmen were entertained at dinner at Warner'a Hotel by the directors of the " Lyttelton Times" Company. • Mr H. F. Wigram, chairman of directors, presided. A most enjoyable evening was spent, and the visitors were very warm in their acknowledgments of the hospitality shown to them.
