THE TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTION.
If we are gmtified *ith the raralt o< the Greater Cbrietchuroh poll, w» ai« no len pleaied witl*. the Tramway Board election Sa far•'.»« the Chrietohnxch npnaeatatloii.
there is «*• fifth •»**, •*>«»*» . a,| e* t ham been given to Councillor C. M. Gray. who has devoted much time and attention to the tramway question in the Owmdl, and would have made a good member. Mr T. H. Davey, M.HJt., to «* opinion. made a great mistake in standing for election. It is manifestly impossible fot * member of Parliament, who has to be absent for four months in the year in Wellington, to give proper attention to the work of a representative on the Tramway Board, and the nraniripal electors have given • plain indication of their vlewn in this respect. Speaking generally, we could not suggest an improvement i» the selection actually made by the electors yesterday. It is evident that they refused to allow themselves to be led astray by any side issues, and (recognising that this was a business undertaking to be carried out by men of commercial grasp and capacity they picked out candidates who, from theii previous records, were qualified by business experience and ability, to grapple with tlhe difficult problems to come before the Board. There i» no doubt that latter will have a somewhat anxious and onerous task before it, when it has been formally constituted and settles down to work. We have little doubt,- however, that the members elected will prove worthy of the great trust and confidence reposed in them by the ratepayers, and that the result wi2 be to the benefit of the district.
