Latest ret'irus give th» Government 66 seats, the Oppnfition 15, and the Labour Party 14. The Government majority of 3 before the election will be increased to 35 or 37. The Labour Party has gained three seats. A feature of the election was the alliance between the Civil Servants and the Labour Party. The alliance waged a most determined fight to stave off the threatened retrenchment, and the result was seen in the defeat of several Ministerial candidates in metropolitan constituencies.

The country declared almost unanimously for the Government.

Mr Williams, ex-Minister for Railways, was defeated.
