A PECULIAR CASE.

(FEI3S ASSOCIATION T____B_U.) MVEE-ARGILL, August 8. -A peculiar cas. cam— _ei-r_ the magistrate to-day, a father being charged with u_neoe_aary cruelty to his son, aged seven years,- by "tying him up in a sack as a punishment for offences. It was alleged that the sack was hung to a rafter. The medical evidence was that the sack was too short for the boy, and that if the weight came on the knees it would be painful. The father, a widower, was kind to his children, and said neither he nor the boy looked upon the mode of punishment seriously. The magistrate dismissed the charge, on the ground that it was not brought within the prescribed period. He did not think the boy's evidence was to be relied on. The child said his father was good to him.
