THE KING'S GRATITUDE.

A MESSAGE TO "MY PEOPLE." (Received August BtJh, 10.48 p.m.) LONDON, August 8. The following message, dated Bucking--ham Palace, August Bth, has been issued by the King: — "To My People—On the eve of my Coronation, an event I look upon as one of the most solemn and important in my life, I am anxious to express to my people at Home, in the colonies, and in India, my heartfelt appreciation of the deep sympathy which they have manifested towards mc during the time when my life was in such imminent danger. The postponement of the ceremony, owing to my Alness, caused, I fear, much inconvenience and trouble to all intending to celebrate it, but their disappointment was borne with admirable patience and temper. The prayers of my people for my recovery were heard, and I now offer up my deepest gratitude to Divine Providence for preserving my life, and • giving mc strength to fulfil the important duties devolving upon mc as Sovereign of this gpreat Empire. —Edward R. and I." The above message was'issued through Mr j Ritchie, Home Secretary, and constitutes an I autograph letter of personal and spontaneous expression of his feelings entirely conceived and written by King Edward. [ [His Excellency the Governor, Lord Ranfurly, received a copy of the above tnes- ; sage last night.]
