The French barque Gael, bound from Mauritius, landed twenty-eight men of the crew of the French barque ViMe d' Orleans, which foundered on the voyage from Glasgow to Brisbane, with a cargo of rails. She sprang a leak, and for twenty days the crew worked the pumps till they were worn out. As the water continued to gain, in spite of their efforts, the vessel was abandoned 440 miles off the South-west Cape, Tasmania. The crew took to the boats, and were picked up on July 13th.
