(-BESS ASSOCTATTO*. T__EG__V_lS.) WESTPORT, May 20. Sir J. G. Ward inspected the harbour works yesterday. He spoke at Cape Foulwind. Returning in the train, warning was given that a horse was caught in a _ulvert. The train was delayed for half an hour. The Minister was entertained at a ball last night, and he visits the. country districts toduv, and attends a banquet to-night. Mr Guinness, M.H.R., addressing his Charlestown constituents, indicated that he would next session bring in a Bill amending the law, so that in future the local option poll should not be taken on the same day as the elections to th. House of Representatives, but that in" future the poll should be taken upon the same day as the election for licensing committees, .go. that the whole question of the local option and the fitness of the committee to administer licensing laws would not be confused with the major question of the election of representatives for Parliament. AUCKLAND, May 20. Owing to an advance in the price of horse feed and'the increased wages, several omnibus proprietors have raised the price of tickets from 2s 6d to 2s 9d per dozen fares, and after, nine-o'clock thuy will charge double rates.
