(Received May 20th, 10.13 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 20. , The Solicitor-General has. decided that no further action can be taken, against the. man Peera, who confessed;to the murder, of. a Chinaman at Yamfha, after having been acquitted on the charge. - . Peera, a Cingale_e, was charged with th.3 murder of a Chinaman named Ah Won, at Yamba. The Crown couu_ not produce the murdered man's body, and for lack of direct evidence the accused was acquitted. Peera waa, however, sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for stealing All Won'_ money. While at MacLean, on his way to Sydney to serve his sentence for stealing the money, -he admitted to a warder, a policeman, and.others, that he killed Ah Won. He said they quarrelled. He wanted his wages from the Chinaman with a .view to leaving the lattt«r_ service. The Chinaman, however, would not pay, and threatened Peera with h_s gun and tomahawk. A strumrle took place on the road about dark, and be took the gun from the Chinaman, and hit .the latter with it, stunning him. He then dragged him to a river close by, and drowned him in 3ft of water by holding him down til he was dead. He then tied his victim's pigtail to the stern of a boat, and towed the body out near the sea, and there cut the .pigtail and let the body go. He denied that the blood in his hut and on the boat was that of the Chinaman, and .aid the police had been telling lies.
