The captain of the British steamer Roddam, on which an explosion occurred in the harbour of St. Pierre during the first eruption, has died from the injuries he then received. Upper north-westerly currents of hot air. meeting the south-westery trade winds, caused showers of white ashes to fall from the sky at Le Corbet. The inhabitants ore fleeing. Tlie Royal Society is sending a commission to investigate tlie disturbances in Martinique and St. Vincent.
