(Received May 20th, 4 p.m.) A case of plague is reported (Received May 20th, 10.46 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 20. Some reticence is observed with regard to the. progress of the plague in the Zoo. It is understood that over fifty birds and animals have died from the disease in the past few weeks. To date 126 cases have been, recorded, 33 having proved fatal. _ The experience of the last three weeks does not indicate that the progress of the epidemic has been arrested, On the contrary, during that period there have been twenty cases, seven being fatal, while in the four weeks there were nineteen cases, with at.»deaths. Another feature is that at the present time the disease is more virulent, six out of seven deaths occurring before the patients could be xemoved to the hospital. Comparing the present buthreak with that of 1900, the death rate ig slightly tower. During both outbreaks the persons attacked whose ages, _ anged iron} 15 to 35 ha-sre far exceeded, in number those of any other age. .. ..".': i :•;!•. ■ ■, i Out of seven Chinese patients _dx have died.

Health Officer show that there hod been 114 cases o_ plague in New South Wa.es during the present outbreak up to the 3rd May, and 56 cases in Queensland to the 26th April. There were 30 deaths in New South Wok®, and 16 in Queensland. PRECAUTIONS AT L_TT_LTON. The Corporation dip at Lyttelton was largely patronised by dogs yesterday, and the appearance of the animals was de-c-dedly improved by tbe process. The quantity of rubbish removed from premises in port on Monday was as"_te_rly double what is usually removed, the householders having apparently been roused from their apathy, and becomes determined to clear aw_v* "-verytliing that can be thought to be in the smallest degree a nuisance.
