LETTERS IN BRIEF.
"More Care" questions tha Health Officer's statement that flour which has been fumigated is not injurious to health. "If only tbe outer portion would be likely to ta*te of sulphur, then the fumigation is of no use, as apparently from what the Hearth Officer says the sulphur would not reach the centre of the flour, where perhaps most of the.germs may have collected. lam inclined, moreover, to think that sulphur would affect the flour in the fermentation process." "Spitsbergen" suggests that the notices warning people ivk. to "expectorate" on the footpath would require less paint and be better understood if the local authorities were to "call a spade a spade and use a more expressive, though less euphonious, term."
